Passenger traffic continues to grow for AENA network

Passenger traffic increased across the AENA network of airports by 4% for the ninth consecutive month in July recording a total of more than 21.9m passengers.

 

As previously reported, passenger traffic in Spain bounced back in the first half of 2014 after a decline last year of -3.5% to 187.4m. The rebound helped World Duty Free achieve strong growth in Spain.

 

Traffic at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas grew for the sixth month running by 4.8% to 4,065,416; by 4.9% at Barcelona-El Prat to 4,027,585 and Alicante set a new passenger record, serving 1.2m for the first time in July.

 

Traffic for airports in the Canaries grew by 7.9%, at Málaga-Costa del Sol it grew by 5.1% and Seville recorded a 10.7% in passenger traffic.

The number of transit passengers increased in Fuerteventura, with 442,757 (15.3%); La Palma, 73,427 (6.3%); Lanzarote, with 556,053 passengers (14.8%); North Tenerife 348 137 (4.5%); Gran Canaria, 784 171 (3.1%) and Tenerife South with 721,685 passengers, up 6.4% from July 2013.

Other airports which experienced increases in passenger traffic included: Ibiza with 1,130,735 passengers (7.3%); Menorca, 496 965 (1.3%); Bilbao, 431,773 (6.4%); Asturias with 15.5% more passengers and 119,840.
