JTI upgrades smoking lounge at Geneva Airport

By Kevin Rozario |

Following a major refurbishment – including an updated design and improved ventilation technology – the JTI smoking lounge at Geneva Airport was officially inaugurated earlier this month.

The 78sq m lounge is located on the second floor of the departures hall, close to the business lounges. As with all of JTI’s newest smoking lounges, this one has an independent ventilation system operated separately from the airport’s system. As a result, airflows can be better regulated and stale air is immediately evacuated outside the terminal.

The lounge is also under negative pressure, which means that the air taken out is more than the air brought in through ventilation. This prevents smoke from exiting the lounge when people enter or leave the room.

“Over 2.9m smoking passengers travel through Geneva airport every year, out of a total of 14.4m travellers in 2013,” says David Francis, General Manager and Vice President of JTI’s Worldwide Duty Free business. “This (lounge) will be a facility, which will significantly enhance the traveller’s experience at the airport.”

By the end of 2014, JTI – a member of the Japan Tobacco Group of Companies – will have 212 lounges and cabins in 16 locations around the world. JTI, which markets brands such as Camel, Winston and Mevius (Mild Seven), has operations in more than 120 countries.
