Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) and Shenzhen Airport Management Company Limited signed an agreement on 4 January to strengthen cooperation between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZIA), aiming to synergise the development of the two airports.

 

 

The agreement was signed by Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the AA, and Wang Yang, President of the Shenzhen Airport Management Company Limited.

 

 

Lam said: “The agreement has been signed after many rounds of meetings between the two parties. The strengthened cooperation between the two airports can enhance the optimisation of airspace resources in PRD (Pearl River Delta) region.

 

 

“The two airports will also support the medium and long-term expansion plans of each other, which will facilitate the long term development of both airports and contribute to the economic advancement of the PRD region.”

 

 

Moreover, both airports will promote the establishment of a designated immigration channel at Shenzhen Bay for passengers and vehicles travelling between the two airports, and the enhancement of sea and land transport services and equipment.

 

 

 

Both sides will also coordinate with airlines operating at both airports to develop ‘all-in-one ticket’ products that include hotel accommodation and transportation options such as flight, ferry and coach tickets.

 

 

Lam adds that HKIA is one of the busiest airports in the world, connecting 190 destinations worldwide, while SZIA offers a comprehensive domestic flight network.

 

 

He says that cooperation between the two airports will not only benefit Hong Kong and Shenzhen residents’ leisure and business travelling to the Mainland or overseas, but also provide more options for travellers in terms of air ticket prices and flight schedules.

 

 

HKIA and SZIA have been closely cooperating with each other, including the joint launch of “Fly via Hong Kong” and “Fly via Shenzhen” services which provide both passenger and baggage check-in services to travellers of the other airport.

 

 

At present, 14 ferries are scheduled to commute daily between the SkyPier of HKIA and the pier of SZIA. In addition, over 80 coaches and limousines are also available to travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen every day.

 

 

Lam believes that based on the well-established cooperation in the past, the agreement would help the two airports to cope with the increasing demand and improve the passenger services together.
