GuestLogix technology expands airline retail

By Doug Newhouse |

GuestLogix reports that two of its latest customers for subsidiary company OpenJaw’s new technology in airline e-commerce and retailing are now Hainan Airlines and the Cathay Pacific Group.

The company says that the technology is timely with ‘travel retailing in Asia Pacific continuing to soar’ alongside increasing avenues for online shopping channels and many airlines looking to benefit from ‘the 42% of travellers expecting to increase their travel spend in 2015.”

As one example, GuestLogix claims that Hainan Airlines has now become the first Chinese airline to launch a complete online travel retailing strategy. The company says: “As the largest privately owned air transport company in the People’s Republic of China, Hainan will now be able to offer its more than 27m customers a full range of air and non-air products through multiple channels, via a single e-commerce platform.

“Through the OpenJaw t-Retailing Platform Hainan will be able to provide travellers with a streamlined online flight shopping experience, as well as manage retailing for third-party OTA sites like Taobao and Qunar. Additionally, travellers will now be able to select from a range of air-related services such as seats and meals, along with non-air products such as hotel and insurance in the booking path.”

The company adds that Hainan Airlines’ customers can choose to pay using more than 40 payment methods, including offline payments, vouchers and bank discounts.

OPENING UP NEW RETAIL AVENUES

GuestLogix adds that the t-Retailing Platform is also making ‘Flight & Hotel Dynamic Packaging’ available for Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Cathay Pacific Holidays, as it explained: “Providing travellers with an easy-to-use shopping experience, the Cathay Pacific Group has rolled out OpenJaw’s t-Retailing platform to support ground ancillary merchandising and dynamic packaging.

“Live in Australia, Singapore and now Hong Kong, travellers now have access to hundreds of thousands of hotel choices, with reviews and ratings provided via integration with TripAdvisor. OpenJaw will provide the ability to dynamically package the best available airfares and hotels, and travellers benefit from an ‘If Booked Separately’ calculator providing value to customers and ancillary revenues to the carrier.

Privately-owned Hainan Airlines operates scheduled domestic and international services on 500 routes from its main base out of Haikou Meilan International Airport.

“Cathay Pacific represents the ultimate in service excellence in the airline industry,” said Brett Proud, President & CEO of GuestLogix. “We are excited to be bringing Cathay Pacific an end-to-end retail technology offering and are excited to see this begin to illustrate to Cathay Pacific the power of the retail technology GuestLogix provides.”

The company says that this t-Retail Platform enables Cathay Pacific passengers to access hundreds of thousands of hotel choices, with reviews and ratings provided via integration with TripAdvisor.
