JKIA shuts two terminals to commence refurbishment at departures halls

The retail areas at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) Terminal 1B and 1C are being upgraded to enhance the passenger experience.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has shuttered both terminals to pave the way for the 12-month airport development project, which is estimated to cost KES 963 million/US$8.7 million.
It covers refurbishments to the departure halls to improve the retail areas, in addition to check-in facilities, security screening and the passenger lounge experience.
Upon completion, the terminals are expected to deliver ‘modern concessions and amenities’ providing travellers with an uprated experience and smoother transit due to centralised security screening procedures and reallocated floor space at the international departure gates.
TRBusiness has reached out to KAA for comment.
Airlines that have been operating from Terminal 1B and 1C have been temporarily rehoused in Terminal 1A and Terminal 2.
In a statement earlier this month, KAA Ag. MD/CEO Alex Gitari said: “The refurbishment and facelift of T1B and 1C aims to align the passenger experience in these terminals to match what is offered at T1A.
“The remodelling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA Customer Service Improvement Plan (CSIP) which was formulated from feedback from our stakeholders and customers.”
