Singapore Airlines chooses DFASS

After several months of deliberation, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has confirmed that it has chosen US-based specialist DFASS to operate its inflight duty free programme. This includes the Silk Air Sky Shop cabin sales service, but

not inflight sales for budget airline Tiger Airways in which SIA holds an interest.
Manager of KrisShop Lim Whee Pyng said: ‘We've decided, in principle, to proceed to negotiate an arrangement with DFASS to be the concessionaire for our inflight duty free business. We'll now proceed to negotiate final terms with DFASS. We expect there to be a seamless transition in the delivery of service to our customers, and more variety and value in the products we offer.’

In a further statement provided to The Business on October 9, an SIA spokesperson added: ‘We have selected them and are now in final negotiations. We cannot commit to a time line. That depends on how fast we can agree.’

The decision to outsource the programme is part of the airline's wider management initiative to outsource non-core activities to outside providers.
Product selection for the Kris Shop brochure has more recently focused on new and exclusive items with more suppliers now prepared to use the Kris Shop for global product launches. For example, last month Bulgari Pour Femme Edition Limitee EDP spray was exclusively listed for a one month period.
