DP World Limassol (DPWL) is advertising new tender licences for the management of duty free shops to serve cruise passengers and crew at its New Passenger Terminals.
A new open plan space has been allocated for the shops at ’shell 7’ in the New Passenger Terminal, with DP World advising it plans to tender the businesses on its on line platform Buy World. It says any interested companies should register their interest with the company (contact: [email protected]).
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA…
Retailers that may be considered for this tender must have at least three years’ experience and ‘character integrity, organizational and administrative capacity’, initiative and a clean criminal record – as well as be ‘accountable’.
They must also have no close connections with any employees or associates of DP World Limassol and possess all the ‘necessary licenses and certifications’ to engage in operating a duty free shop in Cyprus. [There is no cut-off date for receipt this tender published at present-Ed].
For its part, DP World Limassol holds a 25-year concession to operate the new terminal as part of the P&O Maritime contract covering the commercial development of the Port of Limassol.
OPERATING CONCESSION
It was awarded the long-term concession back in April 2016, while its subsidiary P&O Maritime, was also awarded a 15-year exclusive concession to provide the full range of marine services in the Port of Limassol.
The terminal’s activities, comprising three multi-purpose quays, include break-bulk, general cargo, Ro-Ro, oil and gas services – plus the brand new passenger terminal.
Commenting on the development of the Limassol port, Charles Meaby, General Manager of DP World Limassol said: “A thriving cruise market can be a catalyst for positive change, with far-reaching benefits for the economy.
DEVELOPING CRUISELINE DESTINATION
“At DP World Limassol, we focus our efforts on establishing Limassol port as an attractive destination for both visitors and cruise lines. Cyprus has strong growth prospects and we are committed to offering a world-class experience to our customers, ensuring excellence and satisfaction.”
As part of its efforts to stimulate sustainable growth with cruise activities at Limassol port and strengthen Cyprus’ position, DP World says it has also recently joined MedCruise, the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports as an Associate Member.
