Fifth consecutive ‘best shopping’ award for London Heathrow
By Kevin Rozario |
London Heathrow Airport has, for the fifth consecutive year, been named the Best Airport for Shopping at this year’s World Airport Awards while Terminal 5 took the Best Airport Terminal award for a third year in a row.
The awards, held earlier today at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Barcelona, Spain, reflect the findings of Skytrax’ annual World Airport Survey which assesses customer service and facilities across 388 gateways. It is widely regarded as the benchmark for the world airport industry.
A recent independent Airport Service Quality survey at Heathrow showed that passenger satisfaction at the London hub is increasing with those rating their journey as ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ rising from 48% in 2007 to 75% today.
Heathrow says it has made a number of improvements to the airport including over 100 free beauty treatments from brands such as Jo Malone and Crème de la Mer, on-board picnic options at all restaurants, the introduction of a dedicated a team who speak 38 languages, and free attended play areas.
PERSONAL SHOPPING LOUNGE
When Terminal 2 opens in June this year, Heathrow will also be the first airport in the world to have its own personal shopping lounge, two restaurants created by Michelin starred chefs including The Perfectionists’ Café by Heston Blumenthal and a John Lewis shop (left).
Fidel Lopez (right), Heathrow’s Commercial Director says: “We’re delighted to be recognised so consistently for our shops and restaurants, and for Terminal 5. T5 has set a fantastic benchmark… and we are looking forward to the opening of Terminal 2 in June.”
