Amsterdam’s Schiphol strives to meet the needs of a diverse passenger audience.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport says its new terminal promises to exceed the expectations of the 14m more passengers expected to use it.

“The new terminal and pier will include opportunities for retail, finance and business,” Tanja Dik, Director Consumer Products & Services, Schiphol Airport told TRBusiness.

“We consider the construction of the new terminal a great opportunity to take the next step in creating a Schiphol airport experience that exceeds expectations.”

Scheduled to open in 2023, it’s hoped that the newly designed terminal will strengthen Schiphol’s competitive position, keep pace with the growth in aviation and enhance its ‘Europe’s preferred airport’ status with airlines and passengers.

‘SUSTAINABLE, AMBITIOUS AND FUTUREPROOF’

The winning design from Kaan Architecten is an expansion of Schiphol’s existing terminal, making it possible to retain the one-terminal concept and ensure that all its facilities are kept under one roof.

Once completed, It will also create much-needed extra capacity for Europe’s third biggest airport.

“The design provides optimal support to passengers, contributes to our sustainability ambitions and is future-proof,” commented Jos Nijhuis, CEO, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

With extra capacity for cargo, travel retail and passenger footfall, Schiphol looks forward to welcoming all visitors to the new terminal and adjacent new pier in 2023.

“We’ll strive to create an area which exudes our Dutch spirit and combines liveliness, new trends, and rest and comfort, tailored to the needs of a diverse passenger audience,” added Dik.

The Royal Schiphol Group will carry out the expansion project together with Capital Programme, with operations expected to continue normally during the construction and renovation works.
