The Tidal Rum launches ‘world’s first rum distilled at sea’ with P&O Cruises

Jersey based rum brand, The Tidal Rum, is launching what it claims to be the ‘world’s first rum to be distilled at sea’ in collaboration with P&O Cruises.
The new expression, Golden Tide, will be produced exclusively for P&O Cruises at Tidal Rum’s distillery (effectively ‘the first rum distillery at sea’ on the planet) situated onboard the British cruise line’s newest ship, Arvia, which arrives next month (December 2022).
“With this new rum, we wanted to bring together the finest rums of the Caribbean with the fresh notes of coastal botanicals from the shores of Britain’s islands,” said Harry Coulthard, Co-founder of The Tidal Rum.
“Whether you’re taking your first sip while enjoying a stunning island horizon or a beautifully crafted cocktail in Anderson’s Bar, Golden Tide Rum has all the ingredients of an unforgettable P&O Cruises holiday.”
Located in Anderson’s Bar, the distillery will be home to a 50-litre still known as Aurelia that will distil the Golden Tide rum as the ship traverses the Caribbean.
Guests will be able observe the full distilling process through floor-to-ceiling windows.
The finished spirit can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails at Arvia’s bars, and can also be bought from the shops onboard.
Bottles will feature a gold label marked with the individual batch number.
The Tidal Rum will also recreate the recipe on the mainland in blue labelled bottles. These will also be available to buy onboard Arvia.
While on their cruise, passengers can take part in rum tasing and blending classes led by experts.
“Our partnership with The Tidal Rum is based on a shared affinity with the sea, a commitment to sustainability and a passion for exclusively crafted drinks,” said P&O Cruises President Paul Ludlow.
“We’re delighted to offer guests Golden Tide Rum on board Arvia as the perfect accompaniment to a memorable holiday in the Caribbean.”
Golden Tide is described as an ‘island-inspired liquid that captures the sense of adventure and excitement that the ocean brings’.
Made to an exclusive recipe, the ‘sun-drenched’ spirit blends flavours of the region with marine botanicals from the British Isles.
The Tidal Rum brand launched in 2019 and has quickly become known for its award-winning British coastal rum.
Its distinctive salted caramel flavour is derived from the use of coastal botanicals (such as lightly oak smoked pepper dulse foraged from Jersey’s shores) found at full lunar tides, and by blending Caribbean cask-aged rums from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic.
