The Travel Retail Awards: m1nd-set reveals all

By Luke Barras-hill |

MohnmainThe Travel Retail Awards in association with m1nd-set has been created specifically to recognise the very lifeblood of our industry – the travelling shopper.

As the first and only consumer-voted awards dedicated to travel retail and duty free, TRBusiness and m1nd-set is on a mission to identify products and airports deserved of honour, praise and unreserved distinction.

In a quick-fire video, m1nd-set CEO and Owner Peter Mohn explains the methodology behind the awards, how m1nd-set will be involved, what suppliers and airports can gain from entering – including the crucial feedback they can expect to receive – and how winning a Travel Retail Award will create a ‘quality stamp’ for consumer trust moving forward.

“The industry has to think and understand what consumers wants and needs are as these are changing dramatically,” says Mohn.  “A lot of different players who haven’t been involved in awards before have shown their interest; we also want to look into the ‘mega-trends’ and what is important to the shopper from a research point of view, for example sense of place, which is why we have this as one of the awards.”

SPLIT CATEGORY

In response to positive feedback from the industry and a sizeable commitment to products entered in the Wines & Spirits category, TRBusiness has decided to split this into its own standalone categories, ‘wines’, and ‘spirits’.

This now takes the total number of categories to 17,  including 13 product and four airport categories.

As mentioned, each product entered will be judged by over 5,000 participants independently sourced from m1nd-Set’s unique database of international travellers. This stage of the judging process will make up 70% of the overall score.

A panel of bloggers and vloggers (video bloggers) with a broad range of travel and product expertise will also judge the products, making up the remaining 30% of the overall score.

Consumers will also be given the chance to vote on 42 airports carefully chosen from each region (North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa & Middle East and Pacific).
