Van Herrewege to leave Guylian

By Doug Newhouse |

Guylian is saying goodbye to its Export & Duty Free Manager Eugène Van Herrewege who is retiring after holding the position for 20 years.

Van Herrewege is retiring from active service at the end of this year after working in the duty free business since 1983.

Paying tribute to his contribution, Steven Candries, Export & Travel Retail Director said: “Eugene has been a catalyst in our organization and opened up various markets, to start with Eastern Europe, later South America and during the last years his beloved Middle East – while still following up on Europe Duty Free.

“Eugène was one of the old school and a thus a real pioneer, but also one who embraced change. He was eager to learn from others, happy to go with a new wind and methods. Straight forward and always prepared to find solutions. We will miss him.”

Candries adds that Van Herrewege has helped to plan the succession process beyond his departure at the end of this year, while the company has restructured market responsibilities to cover all of Van Herrewege’s previous responsibilities.
