Muscat Duty Free hosted a grand unveil of its shops in November.

This year’s MEADFA Conference will be located in Muscat, Oman on 24-26 November, TFWA and MEADFA have announced.

The 18th MEADFA Conference, managed by TFWA and hosted by Muscat Duty Free, provides a key educational and networking opportunity for those who already – or are looking to – do business in the region.

Muscat Duty Free will sponsor the Gala Dinner, which will be held on Monday 25 November. Further information on the venue and programme will follow.

MUSCAT TAKES CENTRE STAGE

MEADFA President Haitham Al Majali said: “After our very successful event in Beirut last year, we are delighted to bring the MEADFA Conference to Muscat, where delegates will have the opportunity to visit one of the region’s best new airports.

“At MEADFA we are committed to promoting the business potential and reputation of the duty free and travel retail industry in the Middle East and Africa, and this event will help us continue to deliver on that commitment.”

The decision to host the Middle East and Africa duty free conference in the Sultanate of Oman comes amid a busy 12 months for the travel retail in the country.

As reported, the $1.8bn New Muscat International Airport began operations in March last year with Oman Air and Aer Rianta International Middle East joint venture partner Muscat Duty Free (MDF) hosting a grand unveil of its 32,000sq m commercial facilities in November.

This features more than 6,500sq m dedicated to core duty free, including liquor, beauty, wines & spirits, fashion & accessories, confectionery, jewellery and other categories.

TFWA President Alain Maingreaud said: “With its rich history and vibrant culture, the city of Muscat is an excellent choice of location for the next MEADFA Conference. I’m really looking forward to what I’m certain will be a fascinating and informative two days.”

Muscat Duty Free General Manager Martin Mullen added: “The MEADFA Conference presents a great opportunity for all duty free and travel retail professionals looking to learn about the latest developments in this burgeoning market, and we are delighted to be hosting and sponsoring this important industry event.”
