Miami International Airport introduces first bilingual virtual assistant

By Charlotte Turner |

Miami International Airport (MIA) has introduced bilingual virtual shopping consultants for the first time in order to help travellers to navigate the airport’s new dining and retail offer managed by Westfield for MIA Concessions Marketing Programme.

“Leticia,” who also serves as the multi-channel marketing ambassador of the MIA Concessions Programme, is fluent in both English and Spanish and “provides travellers with an engaging, high-tech experience” to showcase the 55,000sq ft of dining and retail choices within the South Terminal’s two concourses.

Westfield launched the pilot programme on behalf of the MIA Concessions Marketing Programme as part of the developer’s digital strategy to help drive consumer engagement and increase revenue for its clients.

The first two virtual shopping consultants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are co-located with interactive terminal directories at the connector of Concourses H and J after crossing the security checkpoint.

‘REIMAGINING THE TRAVELLER JOURNEY’

“Westfield’s digital team is developing technology solutions as part of our overall design vision to elevate the complete passenger experience in North America,” said Dominic Lowe, Executive Vice President, Westfield. “We have a great partnership with Miami International Airport and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to reimagine the traveller journey for the largest U.S. gateway for Latin America and the Caribbean.”

In addition to offering tips on shops, restaurants, services and amenities, and duty-free offers, “Leticia” will showcase new products, seasonal promotions, new menu items, and more.

The arrival of virtual shopping consultants comes as Westfield completes a major upgrade to 28 fully interactive shopping and dining touchscreen directories available throughout MIA in both English and Spanish.

In an airport first in the United States, the directories enable travellers to peruse interactive maps; locate shops, restaurants and amenities; find their gates; discover on-demand offers, special events and airline counters.
