ShopGallery on growth curve with Iguazú opening
By Luke Barras-hill |
Duty paid chain ShopGallery has expanded its footprint with the opening of a new store this month at Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport on the Argentina border with Brazil.
The 250sq m walkthrough shop, which is situated at the pre-boarding area, stocks a wide variety of products including fragrances & cosmetics, watches, sunglasses, children’s toys, confectionery and beverages.
A fashion area boasts labels such as Prüne and Brooksfield plus boutique and local brands.
ShopGallery at Cataratas del Iguazú is the eighth airport point of sale for the Corporación América business.
GAP LANDS IN ARGENTINA
Iguazú joins existing ShopGallery airport stores at Aeroparque International Jorge Newbery, Cordoba International Airport and Salta Martín Miguel de Güemes International Airport.
The company also operates a shop at the Sheraton Mendoza Hotel and a locker pick-up point at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery Airport.
This month, ShopGallery also unveiled an Argentina-first exclusive store from fashion label Gap at the airport.
Customers can purchase apparel and accessories for all age groups from the 50sq m unit situated inside ShopGallery at Gate 9 of the airport’s domestic terminal.
“Gap joins a sector where other national and international brands such as Perramus, Vitamina, Prüne, La Martina, Bath & Body Works, Banana Republic and Victoria’s Secret are located,” a ShopGallery spokesperson told TRBusiness.
“These last two, present at Aeroparque since the end of 2017, can also be found exclusively at ShopGallery.”
TUCUMÁN AIRPORT TO FOLLOW…
New store and brand arrivals form part of a wider expansion vision for ShopGallery.
TRBusiness has learned that the company will tomorrow (22 August) officially open a new airside convenience store concept at Cataratas del Iguazú Airport.
Another ShopGallery opening is due this month at Teniente General Benjamín Matienzo International Airport in Argentina’s San Miguel de Tucumán, with a further opening also planned in Neuquén.
As reported last year, ShopGallery is rolling out ‘virtual’ travel retail pick-up points at Argentina’s leading airports.
Customers can scan product barcodes, pay and depart in a seamless fashion similar to the Amazon Go platform and collect on arrival from designated e-locker locations at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (see below video).
Stores appear close to departure gates in airports where ShopGallery possesses a bricks and mortar presence. Pairing with the e-locker service is an app.
At present, travellers can find QR code-enabled ShopGallery locations at Aeroparque Jorge Newberry, Bariloche, Mendoza, Río Hondo, Formosa, Paraná and Santiago del Estero Airports.
