Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport’s Terminal 2 has been chosen as the launchpad for Dufry Group’s new Hudson global convenience concept in Asia.
Hudson Bright Power (Beijing) Commercial Company – a joint-venture between Dufry Group and China bookstore company Bright Power Beijing – has debuted eight Hudson Travel Essentials Convenience Bookstores at the airport’s terminal 2, offering travellers ‘one-stop shopping with an international ambiance’.
Opening in time for Chinese New Year, the product assortment spans international snacks, soft drinks, Chinese cultural and destination souvenir items, magazines, books, travel convenience products and digital and electronics accessories.
Commenting on the announcement, Ming Kang, Vice General Manager of Chengdu Airport, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Dufry for choosing Chengdu Airport as the first airport in China for Hudson global initiative.”
CHENGDU: HUDSON’S GATEWAY TO ASIA GROWTH
The Chengdu openings underpin Dufry Group’s ambition to increase visibility for its Hudson brand in China, and worldwide.
Citing the National Civil Aviation Authority, Dufry says China is expected to transport more than 500 million passengers in 2016 – achieving year-on-year growth of 13%.
It also notes the high volume of domestic passengers expected to be served with travel convenience products, alongside other Asia markets, making it the ideal environment for the Hudson brand.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport handled more than 44 million passengers in 2016 and is recognised as one of China’s most important hubs.
Andrea Belardini, Division CEO Asia Middle East and Australia, Dufry Group added:
“With its remarkable number of passengers, Chengdu is the ideal starting point to further grow in China, which is a very attractive market for us and where we see a considerable growth potential with our convenience concept.
“Besides the Hudson convenience stores, we are also able to offer our landlords a complete range of retail formats and solutions, from typical core categories to multi-brand category formats such as sunglasses, fashion watches, electronic, leisure wear to name a few.”
