Design Solution wins design contract at TLS

Airport design consultancy The Design Solution has been appointed by Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) to design the reconfiguration of Halls A and B at the airport’s terminal.
The gateway in southwestern France handles 7.5m passengers annually and TLS is forecasting an increase in leisure traffic to complement the business traffic it already has [Toulouse is a major manufacturing base for Airbus and associated aviation businesses].
The current terminal layout splits passenger flows immediately after the landside boundary. London based TDS says: “This, allied to a change in floor level, has made the layout sub-optimal in terms of fully addressing the commercial opportunity. The design project will incorporate the relocation of check-in desks in order to expand the potential for a much more concentrated airside space, including the prospect of a major walk-through duty free shop.”
A CLASSIC CASE
Robbie Gill, Founder and Managing Director of The Design Solution, comments: “Toulouse-Blagnac is a classic example of consolidating passenger flows, changing landside-airside boundaries and altering operational aspects such as check-in and security areas in order to significantly transform the passenger experience and to drive a more effective commercial performance.”
TDS has previous experience of French regional airports including Nantes, Marseilles, and the two terminals at Nice. At Toulouse-Blagnac the company will be assisted at by international aviation specialist consultancy Airport Solutions, which will be carrying out the business planning. Further support will come from Wildstone, an outdoor advertising consultancy.
