Small sunglasses HyderabadLuxottica Group-owned Sunglass Hut has reported that it is achieving ‘significant momentum in the Indian airport market’ through its operation run by its local partner DLF.

The company currently has five doors open in Indian airports, including a 40sq m store opened at Hyderabad Airport last February and its Delhi Terminal 3 outlet which has been renovated and doubled in size for its scheduled opening later this month.

The company claims that its existing stores are experiencing year-on-year ’organic double-digit sales growth’ as the brand becomes better known in India’s domestic and travel retail markets.

‘AMBITIOUS EXPANSION PLAN…’

Currently, DLF operates a total of 66 Sunglass Hut stores in India at present and the company says it has an ambitious expansion plan scheduled over coming years which will see further Indian airport store openings.

Commenting, Francis Gros, Head of Global Channels, Luxottica said: “Airports are a particularly effective platform for targeting India’s luxury shoppers, since we find India’s rapidly growing middle-class shoppers in greater concentration here than anywhere else in this vast country.

“Add to this the step-change in the quality of retail at India’s airports in recent years and Sunglass Hut is delivering strong results in this market.”
