Across the company as a whole, revenue rose +6% in 2015 to a record $96.1bn, reflecting the strong commercial deliveries. The strong Commercial Airplanes result was despite a fourth quarter revenue decrease – but the company is confident going into 2016.

In a statement this week, Boeing President and CEO, Dennis Muilenburg, noted the “record deliveries and revenues in commercial airplanes, and solid sales and healthy margins in our defence and space business”.

He added: “With a large and diverse order backlog worth nearly $500bn, and multiple additional production rate increases planned yet this decade, we are well positioned for profitable growth. Our priorities for 2016 and beyond are to build on our existing strengths to deliver on current plans and commitments.”

The Commercial Airplanes division booked 768 net orders in 2015 and the company says: “the backlog remains strong with nearly 5,800 airplanes valued at $432bn.”
