As reported, the purpose of the RFP was to find ‘new and unique shops’, including premium retail, dining and amenities as part of an overall upgrade and the airport’s $2.69bn Terminal Renewal and Improvement Programme.

The successful bids approved by DFW’s Board so far included ten new or expanded locations for eight brands, including retail businesses for InMotion Entertainment (Terminal D); Headphone Hub (TE); Ertekin Fashion (TD); and XpresSpa (TD & TE). A further five f&b outlets were also awarded, which include: Garrett Popcorn Shops, (TB); Auntie Anne’s (TD & TE); Café Izmir Mediterranean Tapas Restaurant (TD); and Dylan’s Candy Bar (TD). More contract awards are expected to be announced soon.

These aforementioned outlets are also in addition to the recently announced Hugo Boss and Tumi store openings in the airport’s international terminal [http://www.trbusiness.com/regional-news/the-americas/lagardere-tr-expands-dfw-retail-footprint/78299].

Airport management has confirmed that an additional 20 new outlet locations will be awarded over the next two months, aimed at providing more new and unique shops for DFW customers.

“At DFW we are continually focused on the customer, and we work hard to introduce new services and amenities that cater to the expanding demographics and tastes of our customers,” said Ken Buchanan, Executive Vice President of Revenue Management. “We know our customers want world-class shopping and dining, and with these new concessions and retail shops, the airport welcomes fantastic brands that will enhance the traveling experience and offer exciting choices for travellers.”

Since 2011, DFW Airport has added 21 new international destinations and 29 new international routes. In the month of May DFW handled 4.7m domestic passengers (-2.8%) and some 22.1m in the year-to-date (-1.9%). By contrast, international passengers numbered 623,750 (+7.9%) and 2.7m in the year-to-date (+8.5%).
