DFDS to maintain cross-channel ferries after new quarantine countries emerge

By Luke Barras-hill |

Holidaymakers will be able to continue enjoying DFDS ferry trips to France and Holland after the UK government added both countries to the quarantine list.

The ferry and logistics operator is reassuring passengers after it emerged today that arrivals to the UK from France and the Netherlands will have to quarantine for two weeks from Saturday (15 August).

Monaco, Malta, Turks and Caicos Islands and Aruba have also been removed from the travel corridors list due an increased risk of Covid-19 transmissions.

DFDS currently runs 57 sailings per day on routes from Dover to Calais and Dunkirk, three per day between Newhaven and Dieppe, and daily crossings between Newcastle and Amsterdam.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES IN PLACE

Last month, the operator told TRBusiness that retail outlets onboard vessels serving routes between the UK and Continental Europe are now up and running.

Kasper Moos, head of DFDS’ short routes and passenger business said in a statement: “Customers with existing bookings, or those considering booking a holiday to Europe can rest assured that we will continue to operate our passenger routes between the UK, France and Holland.

Retail outlets onboard vessels serving routes between the UK and Continental Europe are operational.

“While arrangements may have changed for what they must do when they return from their break, we continue to provide a safe and relaxing means to travel to and from the Continent.”

As reported, safety measures and procedures are in operation onboard DFDS’ vessels to account for social distancing while ensuring the wellbeing of passengers and crew.

This includes enhanced cleaning regimes, reducing passenger counts, providing hand sanitiser points and the compulsory wearing of face masks on UK to France ships.
