Asian TR welcomes The Macallan Masters of Photography series

By Caroline Sargent |

Whisky connoisseurs at selected Asian airports have an exclusive opportunity to own a rare piece of Macallan history in the form of a limited number of special single cask whiskies, paired with autographed prints by renowned photographer Elliot Erwitt.

The prints were commissioned to ‘capture the unique spirit of The Macallan’s homeland through a collaboration with the world’s most influential living photographer’, says the brand.

The result is The Macallan Masters of Photography: Elliot Erwitt Edition and it has just made its travel retail debut with DFS at Singapore Changi Airport and Hong Kong International Airport, and at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

The Masters of Photography: Elliott Erwitt Edition pairs 58 unique single cask whiskies with an autographed Erwitt print, depicting the spirit of The Macallan heartland through a rich, subtly humourous observation of the Scottish character.

Only 35 of each of the exclusive pairings were created, making a complete global release of 2,030. Edrington Asia Travel Retail has made just 134 bottles available across all three locations.

Each sku comprises a bespoke photo-archival book featuring 158 images, a 35cl handmade glass flask containing a single cask malt whisky concealed within its pages, along with one 11” x 14” print.

COMPLETE SET SELLS FOR SGD$250K AT DFS MASTERS OF WINE & SPIRITS

One of only three complete sets of The Masters of Photography: Elliot Erwitt Edition was exhibited at the 2014 Masters of Wine & Spirits event and sold the same evening for SGD$250,000.

The collection of 58 prints graced the walls – if only for a short time – of the traditional Singaporean mansion that was chosen by DFS to house their annual collection of 80 prestigious expressions from 65 of the world’s leading brands. The 2014 event was the largest and most diverse collection in its history.

“The Masters of Photography series encapsulates the creative excellence of The Macallan and tells its unique story in a way that has resonated strongly with whisky connoisseurs across the globe, particularly in Asia,” comments Ryan Hill.

“Nowhere has this been more true than at DFS’ Masters of Wine & Spirits events, which have provided a powerful platform for showcasing the series, most recently The Masters of Photography: Elliot Erwitt Edition.

“With the availability of a limited number of pieces from this collection through retail partners at strategic airport locations in Asia, we aim to build further momentum behind the Masters of Photography series and relate The Macallan story to a wider audience of enthusiasts and connoisseurs in travel retail.”
