Changi hits 5m pax in April as Boss/Victoria’s Secret open

Changi Airpport topSingapore Changi Airport handled 5.17m passengers in April (+7.8%) as both Hugo Boss and Victoria’s Secret opened their second and third outlets and Changi recorded its one billionth passenger since the day it first opened on 1 July 1981.

 

Airport management reported passenger growth in all regions for the month with the exception of the Middle East, as nine out of Changi’s top 20 markets recorded double-digit growth, including India (+16%), Indonesia (+16%) and Malaysia (11%).

 

Changi management proudly stated: “In April 2017, Changi Airport registered its one billionth passenger since its opening on 1 July 1981. Since then, three terminals have opened – Terminal 1 (in 1981), Terminal 2 (in 1990) and Terminal 3 (in 2008), while Terminal 4 will open in the second half of this year.

GOOD ANNUAL TRAFFIC GROWTH

“Changi Airport’s passenger traffic has risen steadily on an annual basis – it handled over 20m passengers per annum in 1994, 30m in 2004, 40m in 2010, 50m in 2012 and is on track to achieve 60m in 2017.

 

The Singapore air hub has also grown with the rise in passenger traffic – in 1981, 34 airlines operated to 67 cities; today, about 120 airlines link Singapore to more than 380 cities globally.” Changi also handled some 2m tonnes of cargo over the last 12 months

 

In other highlights the airport also welcomed a new daily service from VietJet to Hanoi to add to the seven carriers already flying Vietnam’s three main cities of Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

 

Meanwhile, Hugo Boss and Victoria’s Secret have opened second and third outlets respectively, while various F&B stores and restaurants also opened during the month in Terminal 3.
