DFS opens at HKIA’s Midfield Concourse

DFS Group has opened two large new stores totalling more than 5,800sq ft of retail space at Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) new HK$10bn/$1.2bn Midfield Concourse – aimed at 20% of all passengers (circa 10m) expected to use the new facility annually.
DFS announced today that the new outlets offer travellers ‘an exciting assortment from across DFS’ five pillars of luxury’, combining Beauty and Fragrances and Wines and Spirits with General Merchandise and other product categories.
The retailer claims that the brand selection is aimed at the needs of the travelling consumer and includes more than 100 wines and spirits brands.
In addition, it pointedly adds that the beauty offer also includes leading Korean brands which are very popular with Mainland Chinese customers, such as Sulwhasoo and Laneige.
The retailer adds that these new stores also offer a dedicated fashion watches and jewellery concept space from Emporio Armani, plus a world debut for the first Ray-Ban sunglasses’ shop-in-shop to open in Asia.
Commenting on the development, DFS Group’s Regional President, Asia North, Benjamin Vuchot said: “We are delighted to partner with the Airport Authority Hong Kong to bring visitors to Hong Kong International Airport’s new Midfield Concourse the surprising and delightful customer experience they have come to expect from DFS.
“As the first point of retail for travellers when entering the new concourse, we offer travellers a multi-branded, cross-category experience designed for ease of shopping and we’re confident passengers will love this approach to the travel retail experience.”
The 105,000sq m five-storey Midfield Concourse (MFC) was opened last December by Airport Authority to provide more capacity at HKIA following strong traffic growth levels in recent years.
It is located between the airport’s two existing runways to the west of terminal one and is connected to it with an automated people mover. It has 20 parking stands and a capacity of 10m pax.
Airport Authority is using the new facility to help manage the traffic load more efficiently across the entire airport, with the new facility expected to handle ‘about 20% of daily passenger flights from Hong Kong’ when operating at full capacity.
DFS, which already holds the duty free concessions for Perfume and Cosmetics, Duty Free Liquor and Tobacco, and Airside General Merchandise after winning all three businesses at HKIA, says the new stores are designed to cater fully to the terminal’s annual passenger capacity.
