Kansai Airports to unveil domestic walkthrough retail space in Osaka
By Andrew Pentol |
Kansai Airports is to unveil a new walkthrough space in the domestic gate area at Osaka International Airport (ITAMI).
The new walkthrough space, which the airport operator says is the first of its kind in Japan, will be located in the Retail Zone (post-security) at the revamped North and South Terminals. Both terminals will re-open on 5 August 2020.
The grand opening was initially scheduled for July, but the renovation plan remains unchanged.
A total of 36 shops and restaurants will open across both terminals (17 food and beverage outlets, 18 retail stores and one service outlet).
In the south terminal, 17 shops will open airside and one landside. Over in the north terminal, 14 stores will open airside and four landside.
Much like the Retail Zone in both terminals, the Food and Beverage Zone will have an open space in the centre, comprising tables and chairs.
MAJOR RENOVATION
In February 2016, Osaka International Airport commenced its first renovation in about 50 years. The reopening of the North and South terminals and unveiling of the new departure areas, follows the pre-opening of the central and rooftop areas in April 2018.
Kansai Airports said: “With this reopening, ITAMI will have a total of 31 new stores post-security, offering Kansai-inspired products and experiences exclusive to the airport.
“Pre-security, five new stores are opening up, which will transform ITAMI to an attractive spot to drop by, not only for passengers, but also for local residents and leisure and business travellers who happen to be in Osaka.
“Kansai Airports will continue to develop more exciting facilities to deliver a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience for all airport guests.”
