London Heathrow scoops first Louis Vuitton in a European airport

By Kevin Rozario |

In December, Louis Vuitton will inaugurate its first European airport store at London Heathrow (LHR) Terminal 5 – the home base of hub carrier British Airways.

The move follows the highly successful opening of a Louis Vuitton store at Seoul Incheon Airport in September 2011 by Shilla Duty Free – the first location by the French luxury brand at any airport in the world (see below).

The large 200sq m unit at LHR T5 is dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s passion for travel, says the prestige brand. This store will offer leather goods, as well as women’s ready-to-wear and shoes, fashion jewellery, sunglasses, accessories and fine jewellery and watches.

The shop will be located on the second floor of the departures hall and will open from 5.30am to 10pm. It hopes to attract a high number of shoppers from the 30m passengers that pass though the terminal annually.

At the end of the first quarter of 2012, average daily sales at Incheon Airport’s Louis Vuitton boutique were predicted to rise to $350,000 a day, with monthly turnover standing at a high $10m.
