Joint venture Nuance BG AD has revealed its retail offer at Varna Airport where a five-year concession [which also covers Burgas Airport] is expected to generate €180m ($240m) in sales over the full term.

The JV [between Nuance and Bulgarian Airways Group EAD] has opened both core category and speciality shops in 790sq m of retail space dedicated to beauty, liquor, tobacco, confectionery, local gastronomy, watches and jewellery, fashion accessories and toys.

The offer comprises of a walk-through duty free store, an arrival store, a gate shop and speciality stores including Temptation – Nuance’s concept store for fashion watches and jewellery, Atelier – Nuance’s multi-brand women’s leather accessories store focusing on premium brands, Sun Catcher – the retailer’s concept store for premium eyewear, in addition to stores for confectionery and toys.

Nuance says: “The stores have been designed to incorporate characteristic elements of Bulgarian architecture and nature, such as the sunflower, which is grown in fields in the Varna region.”

Located by the Black Sea, Varna is a tourist destination whose airport (new terminal pictured below), operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, welcomed over 1.2m passengers in 2012.

Andrea Belardini (right), Nuance CEO Europe and Global Chief Commercial Officer comments: “Expanding into a new country is always exciting, and we are extremely pleased to see our brand and retail solution in another airport. I would like to thank our airport and brand partners for their close cooperation throughout the development process, which has been crucial to opening this store.”

Cengiz Iman, Nuance General Manager Turkey and Bulgaria, adds: “The new store provides a truly modern environment with an exciting range of local and international products and brands, adding extra value to the customer journey”.
