The Digital and Blue Ban models have been specifically conceived for millennials.

Danish eyewear specialist B+D is combating the causes of optical strain through excessive digital device usage with the new Capsule Collection.

Targeted at travel retail shops selling electronic devices and eyewear, the Capsule Collection features UV 400 protection and screen light blockers that filter HEV (High Energy Visible) light – commonly referred to as blue light – emitted from digital devices to protect against eye strain, redness, irritation, blurred vision, headaches or dry eyes.

The screen glasses are available in two versions: Digital (0 diopters) without magnification created for younger audiences, and Blue Ban (+1.00 – +3.00 diopters) for the over 40s.

According to B+D, nearly one third of adults spend more than half their waking hours (+9) using a digital device.

Close to two thirds of children and teenagers spend two or more hours per day using such devices to shop, work or play.

Roberto Crom, CEO, B+D said: “The Digital screen light blocker glasses which filter blue light from digital devices and provide UV 400 protection were specially conceived for the millennial category but are actually suitable for all ages.”

Accompanying the Capsule Collection is the Bridge Reader, a compact, lightweight add-on adaptable to every face and storable in a pocket, wallet, purse and attachable to a mobile phone case.

The Bridge Reader comes in four colours (blue, red, black, grey) in various optical strengths (+1.50, +2.00, +2.50).

B+D was a finalist at this year’s consumer-voted Travel Retail Awards for the B+D Digital eyewear.

As a result of the accolade, B+D can proudly display the prestigious ‘Voted by Shoppers’ logo at its global travel retail points of sale.

“We are very honoured and proud to note that the B+D Digital range has been selected, sharing the nomination with other two global brands, as a finalist in the Sunglasses & Eyewear category at The Travel Retail Awards,” added Crom. “We think these awards are really important as the final result is decided by votes from real travellers.”

B+D has enjoyed a strong start to the year in travel retail, notably in the Americas where it has secured new listings with Dufry at Seattle, Detroit, Newark, Las Vegas, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City.

The company has also gained new listings with Duty Free Americas in Atlanta and Miami and is looking to roll out brands in other DFA locations later this year.

In Canada, B+D has been able to place their readers and sunglasses in airports in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.

It also continues to strengthen its partnership with Motta Internacional at its Attenza Duty Free stores in Bogota, Quito, San Salvador and Tocumen.
