By Kevin Rozario |
Duty free and travel retail industry association, the Duty Free World Council (DFWC), has appointed Gerry Murray to the newly-created position of Executive Secretary effective 1 June.
In the role, Murray – who has more than 20 years’ experience in DF&TR – will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the activities of the DFWC and, working closely with the president, the implementation of agreed strategies and action plans of the council. He reports directly to the President and to the council board.
DFWC President Frank O’Connell comments: “Gerry is widely respected within the industry. He has strong cultural awareness and a good understanding of the challenges facing the business.
“I believe he will bring energy, strategic perspective and a wide range of experience to the role and his appointment will help bring the DFWC on to the next stage in its development.”
Murray has held senior positions with several major brands including Samsonite and Godiva. He currently runs his own business – Traveller’s Trove – based in Brussels which offers consultancy and brand representation in the DF&TR channel.
He says: “I am honoured to be offered this important role with the Duty Free World Council as it works to shape the future of our industry. Today, as often in the past, the industry is facing many challenges and the council – as the unique body representing the business on the global stage – will play a key role in coordinating coherent global responses to these challenges.”
