Michael Barrett joins expanding TRBusiness team in CSR & events role

By Charlotte Turner |

Michael-Barrett-TRBusiness-leadTRBusiness is delighted to announce that Michael Barrett has joined the company to oversee its events and CSR activities, from 1 September. Barrett, who is based in Sydney Australia, will work alongside the team to manage the Travel Retail Awards event, the industry’s only consumer voted awards programme, which takes place in Singapore during the TFWA Asia Pacific Summit. (Entries to the awards will be opening soon.)

Barrett’s previous experience working with industry associations TFWA and APTRA and other trade media in running events and coordinating CSR makes him a fantastic asset to the rapidly expanding team at TRBusiness.

He has also been working closely with TRBusiness research and Travel Retail Awards partner, m1nd-set, in recent years in a marketing and communications role.

Most recently Barrett worked at The Moodie Davitt Report where he managed the 2018 Shanghai Trinity Forum and the 2019 FAB Conference & Awards in Dallas. He was also instrumental in ensuring the success of its recent Duty Calls Charity dinner which took place in Singapore in May and raised over $250,000.

PASSIONATE ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY

News of Barrett’s appointment – only weeks after the announcement that Nicky Lane has joined to strengthen the TRBusiness commercial department – quickly follows the launch of the Travel Retail Sustainability Forum (TRSF) and the Travel Retail Plastic Pledge; an initiative which has been widely praised by stakeholders across the industry.

As many are already well aware, Barrett is passionate about sustainability issues, having founded an NGO in Cambodia with its own sustainability mission ‘Clean Green Cambodia’ to reduce plastic pollution and raise awareness about environmental issues among local businesses, residents and visitors.

“We are in a rapid expansion phase, with our popular current and new projects demand increasing resources, so Michael’s arrival is the perfect timing for us” say TRBusiness owners, Nigel Hardy and Janice Hook.

“The consumer voted Travel Retail Awards programme has been a tremendous success in its first two years with strong and rapidly growing interest from the industry. Michael’s expertise in all aspects of event management and his passion for CSR and sustainability will help build on the Awards and successfully develop The Travel Retail Sustainability Forum.”

Barrett adds: “I’m thrilled to be part of one of the friendliest and most forward-thinking teams in the travel retail industry. I’ve got to know Nigel and Janice and their team well over the past few years and have always admired their wonderful team spirit as well as their dedication to providing an in-depth approach to industry news.

“I’m honoured to be working on The Travel Retail Sustainability Forum and Plastic Pledge programme. These are extremely praiseworthy and much-needed initiatives and they demonstrate how TRBusiness is committed to the wellbeing of people and the planet.”
