Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunications (MTT) has awarded the second Enabling Works Package for a new passenger terminal building at Bahrain International Airport (BAH).
The contract worth BD10m/$26.5m went to local contractor, GP Zachariades Engineering & Construction, and follows the signing of the first Enabling Works Package last February.
GP Zachariades was chosen by MTT Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed from 12 submissions. The ministry anticipates the awarding of seven additional contracts by the end of the year, at a combined value of over BD300m/$795m.
The scope of the latest Enabling Works, which will kick off in July, includes support infrastructure and new access security, plus the re-provisioning of aviation fueling facilities. It will be completed by May 2016.
The combined aim for both Enabling Packages is to relocate all existing utilities and facilities away from the footprint of the passenger building in order to facilitate the construction of a new 206,000sq m terminal with state of the art facilities for travellers.
