Lagardère wins new duty free contract at Riyadh Airport

Top Saudi Arabian Airlines A320 at Riyadh King Khaled International Airport (Photo credit Stefan Krasowski)Lagardère Travel Retail (LTR) has announced a new ground-breaking contract gain with the award of a 2,040sq m duty free concession at Riyadh’s King Khaled International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

 

LTR has won the contract as part of a consortium, comprising Saudi Airlines Catering Company (SACC) and Arabian Ground Handling Logistic Company with the business spread over two locations in terminals one and two at King Khaled International Airport.

 

‘COMPETITIVE TENDER PROCESS’

The recent contract win follows what LTR describes as ‘a highly competitive tendering process’ conducted by Riyadh King Khaled International Airport and will afford the opportunity to operate two duty free stores of 1,020sq m each, which will offer perfume and cosmetics, fashion and accessories, gold, diamonds, tobacco, confectionery, foodstuffs, toiletries, electronics, toys and souvenirs.

 

The company adds that in 2015, more than 10m international passengers used Riyadh King Khaled International Airport as their origin, destination or transit point.

 

Commenting on this latest win, Dag Rasmussen, Chairman and CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail stated: “Lagardère Travel Retail is extremely proud to be awarded the concession to operate the Duty Free stores in Kind Khaled International Airport in Riyadh.

“We will do our upmost to warrant the trust the Airport showed in us and are looking forward to create the ultimate Duty Free experience for passengers using Kind Khaled International Airport. We are confident that the operations, carried out in partnership with two reputable and competent partners, will be highly successful.”

 

Adding his comments, Abdulaziz Aboharba, the CEO of the Riyadh Airports Company said: “The airport is looking forward to welcoming Lagardère Travel Retail and is looking forward to a long and successful partnership and welcoming the injection of new and international brands to the duty free shops.

 

INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL STANDARDS

“We are looking forward to the new shops opening which will provide us with a combination of international standards, together with the cultures of Saudi Arabia.”.

 

Lastly, Sakhr AlMulhem, General Director Of Commercial Directorate at the General Authority of Civil Aviation also added his congratulations to the Lagardere Travel Retail Consortium, stating that he is ‘very much looking forward to a first-class international duty free operation in King Khaled International Airport that truly reflects the Kingdom’s natural beauty, together with the desire of the airport to offer the best of the best for the capital’s passengers’.

 

Finally, Wajdy Moh’d Al-Ghabban, the CEO of Saudi Airlines Catering Company added: “SACC is proud to join forces with Lagardère. This consortium combines world-class travel retail operator experience and SACC’s long experience of local traveller’s needs through Skysales.”
