Passenger traffic rose +6.1% in Mexico’s airports during December 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), a leading international airport group in the Americas with operations in Mexico, the U.S. and Colombia, has announced a -3.5% decline in total passenger traffic for December 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.

Although passenger traffic rose +6.1% in Mexico, ASUR noted a sharp decline of -23.9% in San Juan and a -12.3% drop in Colombia.

According to ASUR, the huge fall in passenger traffic at San Juan Airport was caused by the impact of Hurricane Maria, which hit the island on 21 September 2017.

However, it attributes the decline in passengers traffic in Colombia to a local pilot strike at a major international carrier.
