Bacardi GTR’s Dewar’s does the double with DFS at Changi

By Luke Barras-hill |

DoubleBacardiBacardi Global Travel Retail has announced the launch of Dewar’s Double Double in collaboration with DFS Group at Singapore Changi Airport.

The new iteration of the blended Scotch is a series of aged statement whiskies in 50cl size – Dewar’s Double Double 21 Years Old (US$90), 27 Years Old (US$160) and 32 Years Old (US$250).

It is now available as a global travel retail exclusive with the travel retailer and supported by a communications campaign across its digital platforms.

FOUR-STAGE AGEING PROCESS

Julie Witherden, Marketing Director, Bacardi Global Travel Retail said: “Over the past five years, Bacardi has brought an incredible pipeline of whisky innovation into global travel retail.

“The channel has a vibrant mix of consumers from emerging markets at the second stage of luxury who actively seek new discoveries, especially in aged whisky. This new wave, combined with the specialist whisky status of travel retail among established connoisseurs and collectors, makes this an important strategic market for Bacardi. For these reasons, we knew Dewar’s Double Double had to launch in global travel retail first.

“We are delighted that DFS is our launch partner as their whisky retailing expertise is world-class and the quality of their stores and bars at Changi will provide the optimum location for this exciting innovation.”

Relying on a four-stage ageing process, Double Double takes malt and grain whiskies that are distilled and then aged separately in oak casks.

The whiskies are then removed from cask, blended and aged for a second time together in oak casks. In tandem, the grain whiskies are removed from the cask, blended and aged together again.

Both are finally blended together, then aged for a third time before the whisky is transferred to sherry casks for finishing.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Brooke Supernaw, Senior Vice President Spirits, Wine, Tobacco, Food and Gifts at DFS Group added: “Given the demographic of whisky connoisseurs and our well-versed shoppers in Singapore, whisky is a popular category sold at DFS, Singapore Changi Airport.

“The partnership between Bacardi Global Travel Retail and DFS is a true collaboration where we delight our discerning travellers with the highest calibre of aged whisky and innovation.”

Dewar’s is an award-winning blended Scotch whisky and Double Double is rooted in its history and the skill of its master blenders.

A.J. Cameron, Dewar’s first master blender, spent 20 years adding steps to the ageing process having introduced his double-ageing method in 1881.

Nearly 120 years after a breakthrough in 1901, Stephanie Macleod, Dewar’s seventh Master Blender releases Double Double.
