Delhi Duty Free Services (DDFS) is working with USR Indu Samiti, the Indian local partner of Lotus Flower Trust, to develop a school and skills centre for children with mental and physical challenges.

The school and skills centre funded by Delhi Duty Free are in the State of Uttrakhand and unique to this area. The residential school is built for children of all abilities and is home to nearly 70 children.

The skills centre enables children to develop skills which will help them earn their own livelihoods and reintegrate with their families.

Skills taught at the centre range from candle making, beauty services and IT to the successful production of garments using a range of sewing and knitting machines.

All products are sold locally and help finance the running costs of the residential school. Delhi Duty Free recently concluded its annual planning meeting with LFT CEO John Hunt, LFT Chair Sarah Branquinho and LFT Founding Trustee and TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen.

SIGNIFCANT CONTRIBUTION

DDFS has contributed significantly to the success of the skills centre since 2014.

Delhi Duty Free CEO Luke Gorringe said: “Through our collaboration with LFT, we have been able to provide life-changing projects for children from some of the poorest and most marginalised sectors of the community. We will continue to engage with children and the local community in Uttrakhand and help LFT to deliver lasting change.

“We believe Corporate Social Responsibility should continue to deliver tangible benefits to communities and we are closely monitoring the progress of the projects funded by Delhi Duty Free, while measuring the impact they are having on both the children and their local community.”

As part of its CSR programme, Delhi Duty Free has also been associated with the Himalayan School Society which established the Him Jyoti School in Dehradun, Uttrakhand.
