Lotte Duty Free eyes Smart Store expansion to overseas branches
By Luke Barras-hill |
Lotte Duty Free has introduced a second wave of digital upgrades at its Smart Store, which opened on the first floor of the travel retailer’s flagship Myeongdong shop in March.
The Smart Store concept is set to roll out to other Lotte Duty Free domestic locations and overseas branches by the end of 2020.
All existing acrylic price tags have been replaced with electronic versions.
These digitise price tags on product display stands and feature a QR code to obtain product information via a mobile website.
An unmanned payment system in the Smart Store is due to be introduced at the end of the year using automatic recognition technology that is location based.
This is powered by artificial intelligence image recognition technology that recognises the product for purchase using the Smart Store website.
Lotte Duty Free says it is promoting digital transformation technology so it is equipped to excel in a post-coronavirus shopping world.
At the end of June, Lotte Duty Free recruited digital transformation and information technology experts.
A Lotte Duty Free spokesperson said: “Digital advancement has become a necessity rather than a choice for the duty free industry.”
