The airport handled around 5m international pax in 2017.

The Shilla Duty Free (Shilla) is to open two new stores at Gimpo International Airport tomorrow (9 January).

As reported, Shilla was shortlisted for the five-year liquor and tobacco concession last year.

A Shilla spokesperson confirmed to TRBusiness that the liquor and tobacco store will span 297.5sq m with an assortment of over 100 brands including KT&G and Iqos.

The fashion and general merchandise shop will be spread over 433sq m with more than 30 brands including Longchamp, Coach and Cheong Kwan Hang (Korea Red Ginseng).

CONCESSION WIN

Reacting to the concession win in 2018, the spokesperson added: “Gimpo International used to be the nation’s main gateway before Incheon International Airport. At present, there are still considerable numbers of domestic and foreign passengers travelling through as the airport remains the secondary gateway for the Seoul metropolitan area.

“Obtaining more airport channels is also expected to positively impact The Shilla Duty Free’s future expansion to offshore airports.”

The opening of the stores is part of a revamp of the international terminal scheduled for this year.

Located South of the Han River in Western Seoul, the airport handled 5m international passengers in 2017. The domestic passenger route between Jeju and Seoul Gimpo also remains the world’s busiest, with more than 13m pax taking the service in 2017.
