Shinsegae Duty Free is planning to offer a membership service in the Global Shopping Corner area of the C-Trip website.

Shinsegae Duty Free has partnered with Chinese online travel agency C-Trip to offer a membership service and attract more Chinese consumers.

The Korean retailer, which is targeting sales of KRW3trillion ($2.6bn) in 2018, will offer a membership subscription service via the C-Trip website.

As reported, Dubai Duty Free also partnered with C-Trip in July to promote itself to customers travelling from China to Dubai. With over 300m users, C-Trip offers travel-related services such accommodation, flight reservations and tour packages.

MEMBERSHIP SERVICE

Shinsegae Duty Free is planning to offer a membership service in the Global Shopping Corner area of the C-Trip website. Subscribers will receive a silver rating and 10% discount at all times.

This latest development follows the launch of its first membership service last November with Chinese multi-purpose messaging, social media and mobile payment app WeChat.

Following the start off the WeChat membership service, foreign members increased more than +150% on a daily basis. Average daily sales also rose from KRW4bn ($3.5m) in October 2017 to KRW5bn ($4.4m) as of April 2018.

A Shinsegae Duty Free spokesman said: “We are focusing on establishing related platforms and communities that can closely communicate with customers. In addition to the partnership with Citibank and WeChat, we will also expand our alliance to attract Chinese tourists.”
