Copenhagen prepares for summer

By Doug Newhouse |

Copenhagen Airport and its airlines are preparing for peak summer days ahead when as many as 100,000 passengers a day will be process.

Airport management says that sunshine destinations in southern Europe and the big cities in North America are amongst this year’s favourites with customers, with Danish schools closing for the summer holidays today. Added to festivals and conferences in Copenhagen, management says today will probably exceed the 100,0000-passenger level.

The airport says that the new special focus on check-in and self-service bag drops should help, with 16 of these positions now available where it takes an average of just seven seconds to deposit each bag.

MOST POPULAR DESTINATIONS

The airport says that its two largest ‘holiday airlines’ of SAS and Norwegian will mostly be taking Danish passengers to the following top destinations of choice in Nice, Malaga, Barcelona, Rome and Mallorca. London is also a popular choice and Danes have also shown good enthusiasm to visit the US destinations this year, including  New York, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale.

SAS has also opened six new routes out of Copenhagen to Pisa and Naples in Italy, Faro in Portugal, Chania in Crete and Bastia in Corsica, and to Montpellier in the south of France. SAS also reopens its summer routes out of Copenhagen to Pula in Croatia, Thessaloniki in Greece, Palermo in Italy, Biarritz in southern France and Gazipasa in Turkey.

These new routes are said to be popular, but the classical SAS destinations are also in great demand this summer with the highest numbers of passengers booked on flights to New York, London, Paris, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Helsinki, Amsterdam, Chicago, Milan, Nice, Dublin and Rome.
