Flughafen München (Munich Airport/MUC) will this month introduce a complimentary personal shopping assistant service for Japanese passengers at Terminal 2.

Beginning 16 July and running until 7 October, the service enlists native speakers (available daily between 13:00pm to 20:30pm) to assist with sales tax refunds, customs and duties enquiries, while smoothing ‘cultural and language barriers between passengers and sales staff’ for a more seamless shopping experience.

Wearing prominent uniforms, the assistants can be called upon by outlets in Terminal 2 on request.

PAST SUCCESSES…

The roll-out follows the success of a similar project for Chinese passengers in the terminal, alongside excellent results demonstrated by a pilot project for Arabian travellers last year.

As a result, the ‘Arabic Shopping Assistant Service’ (available daily between 09:30pm to 21:30pm) will run alongside the Japanese one from 16 July until 2 September.

MUC’s wholly-owned retail subsidiary Eurotrade leases duty free and travel value concessions spanning approximately 75% of MUC’s commercial footprint.

Eurotrade continues to embark on a comprehensive refurbishment of stores, trading under the MyDutyFree fascia, following the addition of 7,000sq m of retail and F&B space on the opening of the $1bn Satellite Terminal 2.

Passenger numbers at MUC grew by 5.5% in 2017 to record a new peak of 44.6 million.
