A major infrastructure investment programme to refurbish the departure lounge and surrounding commercial areas at George Best Belfast City Airport has begun.
As reported, the £15m ($20.9m) project will increase the overall retail space by 30%, including an expanded offering from World Duty Free and WHSmith.
The Work is taking place in the current terminal building as part of a phased process led by construction company H&J Martin Fit Out, which is demolishing and readying the areas for the new retail spread. Completion is set for October.
Chris Horner, Capital Projects and Engineering Manager at Belfast City Airport, said: “Continually enhancing the overall passenger journey for our passengers is a major objective for Belfast City Airport and our £15m investment programme will be a key factor in delivering on this commitment.
“Completing the preparation of the existing areas for work to begin on the refurbishment of the retail areas is a significant milestone in the project and we look forward to work progressing further as the new terminal reconfiguration takes shape.”
Aside the new retail space, upgrades include additional food and beverage outlets and seating areas.
