BPI adds 6th line: Zadig & Voltaire
By Kevin Rozario |
Beauté Prestige International (BPI) is now a six-strong fragrance house thanks to the addition of French ‘new wave’ fashion house Zadig & Voltaire. Clarins Group held the licence for the fashion house’s existing fragrance business.
BPI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan’s giant Shiseido beauty group, will be responsible for the creation, production, and global distribution of perfumes under the Zadig & Voltaire name for the next 15 years under a licensing deal signed by its parent group.
Zadig & Voltaire, known for its rock and roll image, was created in 1997 as a ready-to-wear fashion label by Thierry Gillier and it now has nearly 300 points of sale worldwide.
Commenting on the deal, Rémy Gomez, President of BPI, says: “BPI’s know-how can express itself with brands with a strong personality which are hallmarks of their time and set a fundamental trend. Zadig & Voltaire is such a brand, with a strong evocative power and a tremendous potential of expression in perfumes.”
BPI’s current stable consists of Issey Miyake (fragrances since 1992), Jean Paul Gaultier (since 1993), Narciso Rodriguez (2003), Elie Saab (2011) and Azzedine Alaïa (first fragrance expected in 2015).
