Jo Malone collaborates with Marthe Armitage
By Charlotte Turner |
Jo Malone has collaborated with artist and wallpaper designer, Marthe Armitage for a limited edition collection which celebrates British artisans, available from June 2016 at select Jo Malone London travel retail counters.
Armitage is an artist and wallpaper designer who has been living and working in London for 60 years. She draws, cuts lino, mixes paint and prints herself to create wallpaper entirely by hand.
Her collaboration with Jo Malone London is said to be inspired by the ingredients in the brand’s ‘elegantly simple’ scents and Henry James’s belief that the two happiest words in the English language are ‘summer afternoon.’
“I wanted to capture the perfect English summer afternoon,” says Armitage. “It needed to feel alive and I wanted to weave in ingredients from the Jo Malone London scents. This project has seen me exploring a world I’ve not experienced before and it’s been lovely.”
Her hand-printed Summer Afternoon design decorates the boxes and bottles in this limited collection, in keeping with the brand’s history of collaboration with celebrated British artisans.
“Summer Afternoon captures the entrancing haze of an English summer’s afternoon,” says Jo Malone. “A green and fragrant garden, buzzing with bees. Dappled sunlight. Ducks on the lawn. The tap of the croquet ball and laughter of children. A gardener resting on the bench, his face to the warm sun.”
The collection includes: Red Roses Scented Drawer Liners (Set of 4); Green Tomato Leaf Home Candle 200g; Nectarine Blossom & Honey Glass Decanter Bath Oil 200ml Soap Collection (Set of four Soaps 50g).
