Two US wines in The IWSR top 100 wine list rankings

Two US wines feature in The IWSR’s top five as the leading source of data and analysis for the global alcoholic beverage market releases its annual rankings.
The Wine Group’s Franzia ranked second with growth of +2.6%, despite this being outstripped by E&J Gallo’s Barefoot at +6.25%, which ranked third, adding over 1m cases in the US alone.
An extract from research published in the November issue of the IWSR magazine read: “Since its inception in 1986, Barefoot’s fresh approach to wine marketing has attracted new consumers to the category. Gallo acquired the brand in 2005 and has carried on that messaging, transforming it into a global superpower.”
Castel Frères took top spot for the second year in a row despite strong volume performances from other brands in the top five.
Chile’s Concha y Toro line, which includes Casillero del Diablo, Frontera and Sunrise, was another notable mover into fourth (up from fifth in 2015), with volume growth of nearly 400,000 cases on its home turf.
“Premium brand line Casillero del Diablo continued to gain strongly in the UK, up 9% on 2015, to cap overall Concha y Toro range growth of over 300,000 cases in the country,” added the research. “It enjoyed further strong increases in the Netherlands, Mozambique and the US.”
ISWR STILL WINE PROFILER
In July, the IWSR launched its new Still Wine Profiler interactive platform in collaboration with Wine Intelligence, which provides a comprehensive snapshot of global developments in the still wine industry.
Aside offering a global overview of market movements, the platform drills into leading brands in 20 of the world’s most dynamic markets for imported still wine.
The platform is the only online tool of its kind to combine brand sales, volumes, prices and consumer sentiment/demographics, claims The IWSR.
