DDF and UnionPay join forces in ‘Golden Week’ bonanza

Dubai Duty Free (DDF) is celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with the return of the popular Chinese ‘Golden Week’ promotion, which runs from 23 September to 7 October.
In collaboration with UnionPay International, DDF customers at Dubai International are being offered the chance to win gift cards worth up to AED150 (US$40.8) for transactions worth AED888 (US$241) or more made with UnionPay card.
The travel retailer has executed a series of other promotions in a concerted attempt to capture a greater share of Chinese customers’ spending in celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which fell officially on 24 September.
Popular products for Chinese consumers are being offered at retail areas adorned with traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery, the Chinese Goddess of Moon, and decorative hanging lanterns.
BEAUTY DISCOUNTS
Supplementing this are discounts of between 10-30% across a variety of popular Chinese beauty brands including Lancôme, Shiseido, L’Occitane, Estée Lauder, SKII and Guerlain.
Customers can also benefit from a 10% redemption on selected Tissot and Rado watches and ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ and gift with purchase deals in other categories, including liquor & tobacco and confectionery.
DDF’s 800 Chinese staff handed out a total of 5,000 mooncakes to all departing Chinese passengers on 23 September, the day prior to the festival.
In 2017, Chinese passenger sales generated US$86.32m, accounting for 4.5% of DDF’s $1.93bn total duty free sales haul.
Chinese pax take a 4% share of traffic at the airport, with around 17% spending at DDF.
