QDF and L’Oréal: ‘When East Meets West’ in HIA

By Doug Newhouse |

A new exclusive luxury retail concept entitled ‘When East Meets West’ is showcasing five L’Oréal perfume houses with Qatar Duty Free in a high-profile location in the main atrium of Hamad International Airport.

This extensive pop-up experience has been developed solely for QDF in partnership with L’Oréal Luxe this summer to highlight five areas dedicated to special offerings from Lancôme, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, and Viktor & Rolf.

These houses are using the new high profile platform to showcase their oriental and occidental-style fragrances inside the East Meets West installation, which has been strategicaly located in the airport’s departures concourse, providing a focal point for all passengers departing from – and equally importantly – transferring through Doha.

Qatar Duty Free is delivering on its promise to showcase exclusive promotions for its passengers prominently within its 40,000sq m of retail and F&B space – literally a luxury it was unable to create easily in the old airport, where space was so tight.

In addition, the ‘exquisite sensory journey’ has been created around an area of peace and relaxation directly inspired by the shape of the Fountain of Doha Museum of Islamic Art.

Qatar Duty Free Senior Vice President, Keith Hunter said he is delighted with the new initiative: “It is a privilege to work in partnership with L’Oréal to bring this fresh new pop-up shop concept to Hamad International Airport and we look forward to our customers enjoying the amazing selection of fragrances on offer from some of the world’s most popular perfume houses.”

QDF explains that each fragrance delivers a unique flavour to its own section within the large pop-up installation. In its description of the new initiative, it says that the Giorgio Armani ‘house’ passengers will be ‘enticed by the warm and rich décor’ complemented with pieces from its Armani Privé 2015 Fashion Edition ‘Sable or and Sable fumé’, alongside its best-selling fragrances Acqua di Gio and Si.

The retailer adds: “The house of Yves Saint Laurent invites passengers on a journey from heritage to modernity with fashion pieces from its Oriental Collection and its fragrance Black Opium, while Lancôme showcases its new Oud Bouquet fragrance alongside the timeless Trésor and another new addition, Trésor Nuit.

“Viktor & Rolf, who share a ‘house’ with Ralph Lauren, will showcase the 10th anniversary edition of their hit fragrance Flowerbomb called Flowerbomb Rose Explosion, while Ralph Lauren offers passengers the chance to try two new releases: Polo Suprême Oud and Polo Red Intense.”

Ralph Lauren as it has not been seen before in the international DF&TR marketplace. At HIA the brand is sharing its ‘house’ with Viktor & Rolf.

As a reminder of their visits and for gifting, customers are also being offered a unique engraving service on the bottles that they buy from this installation during the promotion period.
