Heinemann Tax & Duty Free has today (12 October) re-opened one of its gate (Pier B) stores in Sydney Airport Terminal 1 (international terminal) on a trial basis.

All Heinemann operations across Australia had previously been shut for 196 days due to the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Australian residents with special exemptions to travel overseas, along with departing foreign nationals can visit the store during the trial.

WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES

Heinemann Australia, which secured a new eight-year contract at the airport beginning in 2022 in February 2020 said: “Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard, preparing to re-open in a Covid-safe manner for our passengers and team.

“Although we will be servicing a limited amount of departing passengers, we feel this is a necessary step to take towards building confidence and optimism within our airport community and the travel retail industry.”

As reported in a recent interview with Vanessa Orth, Chief Commercial Officer, Sydney Airport, Gebr Heinemann will explore new data and technology initiatives and look to create a ‘truly omnichannel’ approach in the coming years.
