By Doug Newhouse |

The Pacific Asia Travel Association predicts that visitor arrivals to Asia Pacific will rise from 521m this year to 670m by 2018.

PATA says this presumes an average annual growth rate of 6.5%. Amongst the highlights, it adds that arrivals from the Russian Federation are expected to surpass 10m by the end of 2016 from just under the 6m level achieved in 2013. Thailand, China and Cambodia are also registering as the top three destination choices.

The association adds that the Asia Pacific region is also expected to see an upsurge in arrivals from Korea (ROK) across-the-board, ‘with a few exceptions’.

PATA predicts that Korean travellers will boom and overtake Japanese.

By the end of 2016, total Korean arrivals to the region are predicted to pass the 20m threshold and pass the number of travelling Japanese.

PATA’s forecasts cover 38 destinations in the Asia Pacific region and provide greater details on international arrivals flows into each of these destinations. The more detailed forecasts here are copyright, but PATA can be contacted for more data at www.PATA.org
