Gebr. Heinemann and Copenhagen Airport have entered into an agreement to extend their collaboration by a further decade, to 2033.

The contract, signed yesterday at the Gebr. Heinemann headquarters in Hamburg, will see the duo’s main shop expanding from 2,600 square metres to 4,000 square metres by 2026, with a new design incorporating digital elements to enhance the customer experience.

The news builds on the successful partnership between the two business, with the family-owned retailer and distributor being present at Copenhagen Airport since 2007.

“We have an exceptionally stable and trusting relationship with Copenhagen Airport,” said Florian Seidel, Chief Sales Officer at Gebr. Heinemann.

“This is the basis for our constant economic development at this location. We are proud of our strong Nordic footprint and are delighted to extend the contract with the airport.

“It is an important location for us, which we will continue to expand and improve, as we have done in the past.”

Added Katrin Bamler, Managing Director at Gebr. Heinemann Retail ApS: “This renewed contract not only reaffirms our commitment to grow together but also brings a greater sense of security for investments.

“As part of this partnership extension, we will elevate the shopping experience for our customers through an expanded sales area offering an enhanced shopping experience, thus making sure that Copenhagen Airport remains a top location for travel retail.”

The main shop will be expanded by almost 54% to 4,000 square metres by 2026.

Gebr. Heinemann operates six shops at Copenhagen Airport, the largest of which is the ‘main shop’.

Its planned expansion to 4,000 square metres will create more space, with a special focus on regional brands and products across all categories that are ‘highly requested by travellers’, according Gebr. Heinemann.

The new, digital elements set to be introduced will further improve the shopping experience from a convenience perspective.

Heinemann’s other stores at the airport are: Pier A (409 square metres); Pier B (203 square metres); Pier C (353 square metres);  the T3 store (159 square metres) and the Arrival Shop (133 square metres).

Across the locations, the shop concept is characterised by creating a strong connection to the region with, among other elements, a variety of local products available and a distinctly Scandinavian look and feel to the design.

‘Ambitious sustainability targets’ are also part of the overall strategy, which will be defined ‘in close cooperation’ with the airport. Stay close to TRBusiness for more on this.

“It has been a priority for Copenhagen Airport to continue the close and trusting cooperation we have had with Gebr. Heinemann since 2007,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airport.

“With the major expansion of the Terminal area between Gates B and C, we have the opportunity to continue innovating and growing together.”
