Get your ‘Duty Freanz’ hit: Heinz has partnered with Heathrow to give away tins of beans

Kraft Heinz-owned Heinz Beanz has teamed up with Heathrow to offset “security sadness” by offering passengers beans on departure.

Travellers who visit the Terminal 2 ‘Duty Freanz’ pop up, which runs until Friday 1 December, will be able to pick up a free can of beans each ahead of boarding a direct flight.

The activation was inspired by insights that show 73% of holidaymakers pack their favourite food or drink items for their travels. Of those who said they brought food with them, 27% take Heinz Beanz.

Despite the strategic packing, 28% said they have had to leave a food or drink item at security.

According to the research, which was carried out my Opinion during early November, 19% of the holidaymakers who have packed food say they miss Heinz Beans when they are away.

The Opinium research quizzed 2,000 UK British holidaymakers between 6th-13th November 2023.

Heinz is encouraging passengers to pack their food goods in their hold luggage prior to check-in.

Additional packing tips from Heathrow to consumers include double-checking allowances and contents restrictions, and preparing LAGs prior to security.

The airport is also using the communication to reassure passengers that items purchased after security can be taken onboard flights.

Heinz Beanz: No-one goes without their ‘favourite’

“Here at Heinz we understand the fear of being without your favourite Heinz varieties, even on holiday,” said Alessandra de Dreuille, Director of Meals & Infant UK at Heinz.

“That’s why we’re thrilled to be partnering with Heathrow, bringing travellers an experience that means no one has to be without their favourite Heinz Beanz while travelling abroad.

Passengers will receive packing tips as well as free beans.

“Whether you’re visiting friends or relatives abroad, heading off for some early winter sun or even popping somewhere for a long weekend, our Duty Freanz experience means that for those that can’t be apart from their beloved Beanz, they can enjoy a complimentary can of Heinz Beanz to take with them on their holidays.”

Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow, commented: “At Heathrow, our priority is providing passengers with the best airport service in the world.

“We are proud to support an iconic British brand in ensuring that those travelling through Heathrow over the festive period can enjoy a tin of Heinz Beanz as part of their celebrations, no matter their destination!”

Fraser Brown spoke to TRBusiness in Cannes last month in a wide-ranging interview spanning arrivals duty free, commercial trading and recent award wins.
